Dhulheti
Celebration of Color
acrylic on wood, natural Purple Heart wood frame
Size: 53” x 54”
The second day of Holi (an Hindu festival of energy in the universe) is called Dhulheti. During Holi different waves of energy traverse the universe creating various colors that nourish and complement the function of respective elements in the atmosphere. During Dhulheti children and adults “play Holi” in the morning by throwing small pouches of powdered color and water at each other creating a brilliant spectacle of exploding color. After a long bath, the rest of the day is spent eating good food and sweets and spending time with family and friends. I recreated this enjoyable, playful, and significant cultural ritual with delicate colorful wave-like stokes and beautiful unstained natural Purple Heart wood coexisting through a dance of harmonious energy.
